“Disgusted. You should be struck off for giving NZ a bad name”

There was absolutely nothing distinctive about Distinction Twizel. After traveling extensively throughout NZ, this was the worst accommodation I’ve ever seen. I never saw a bathroom with no hooks, no towel rail, let alone a heated one—in Twizel in winter after a day walking in cold, wet conditions. After leaving the room at 6:15 with the heater on full, the room temperature at 8:00 was 17 °C. No electric blanket. Our bath towels in the morning were damp and cold. Also, I’ve never been restricted to 20 minutes of shower for 2 ! YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE NZ TOURIST INDUSTRY. A LIABILITY IN FACT. Robert Burrow Taupo. Read my comments.

“This property should not have been ope - or at the very least, the major construction works should have been made clear”

It was warm. The beds were comfortable. We arrived to a construction site; major renovations were in progress and were not flagged. Access to the temporary reception was under a very large fork‑hoist with a load of long planks raised up at roof height. WorkSafe would have had a fit. Room access was past building equipment vehicles and over plastic on the carpet. Access to the bar/restaurant was poorly sign‑posted, upstairs and down the dale as the usual corridor was blocked. Our room was relatively clean except for the windows, which were very grimy, which was a pity because the gardens were quite nice—except for the construction materials stored all over the place and the pieces of scrap timber on the lawn outside.
