Set in a 1854 Victorian building, The Hotel Shamrock occupies a corner of Pall Mall in Bendigo’s centre, steps from Rosalind Park and 1.7 km from the railway station. Air‑conditioned rooms feature fridges, kettles and flat‑screen TVs, with en‑suite bathrooms offering free toiletries. The Shamrock Café serves continental breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the Gold Dust Lounge hosts live cover‑band music on Saturdays.

The heritage building is magnificent, with grand interior lounges and a staircase from yesteryear. I booked an Executive Queen Room for almost $200 per night (room only) on a Sunday and Monday. I was disappointed to be given a back room with no view except over rusty roofs and other broken infrastructure. The bedside lamps were crooked and so dim you couldn’t read in bed. The hotel was definitely not too full, so I consider my experience poor value for money. I had Sunday lunch at the very atmospheric restaurant, obviously very popular with locals. However my Spaghetti Marinara, one of the "Specials", was very dry and had little seafood.

Spacious rooms. Staff very helpful. Location was very good, it was close to our event and next to the park so we were able to have a pleasant walk. The electronic door to our room didn’t work, so we needed to change rooms. Heating was not available in the new room we were given. The breakfast the next working was not up to a reasonable standard
