“Overall okay but not the cleanest”

The pools were lovely and clean, and the location was very good too; there’s a pool table and table tennis. However, the room wasn’t the cleanest, the shower lacked light and the black tiles still showed dirt, the shower didn’t really work, and the towels were stained and smelled funny even after we asked for replacements. We had cockroaches in our room at night and geckos, even though we put our rubbish outside. The staff weren’t the friendliest, and housekeeping only came on one of our days.

“Grand Hostel in need of staffing & managerial overhaul”

It still retains some of the fading glory it once had from 10 years ago, but it’s clearly time for a reset in areas that have fallen into complacency. Basically, it has all the makings of a “grand hostel,” just needs some renewed passion. I kid you not, this place used to always be rocking and it definitely can make it back to that level. Breakfast and coffee selection need an overhaul. Management seems minimally adequate, but the staffing was rough. Overall, guest access gets cut off at 10 PM, leaving you only in your room or at reception.

The rooms were nice, but the sea view room came with a bit of a bonus – a patch of land strewn with rubbish right outside the balcony. The view itself was beautiful, but the area needed a good clean. The pool water was a bit of a shock, with a strong smell of mildew that lingered on skin and hair. The staff were friendly, but struggled with helping with luggage, and the charging for bottled water was a bit of a surprise.

The outdoor facilities were a highlight, with a lovely pool and good vibes all around. The staff were great, and the room was spacious and comfy. We enjoyed our stay, but there were a couple of power outages due to the local grid issues – nothing too major, but worth noting.

“Shabby and unclean”

The pool area was the only spot that seemed to be kept clean, which was a bit of a surprise given the state of the rest of the hotel. We were moved to a new room after finding a big hairball on the bed sheets, and while the new room was bigger, it had its own set of issues – scum in the shower drain, pubic hair on the floor, and stains on the balcony. The hotel felt shabby and outdated, with electrical wires hanging and outdated sockets. Definitely not the kind of place you'd want to stay.
