“Good value for money for this location, but bring low expectations to facilities”

Just a stone’s throw from Death Valley, the building’s historic vibe is unmistakable, and the price covers decent Wi‑Fi and ice. We arrived in summer, only to find the opera house closed—no sneak peek allowed. The place looks like a set for a horror film, with poor lighting and peeling paint in the rooms and walls.

“It is budget friendlier but didn’t feel comfortable mainly how everything was dirty and dusty.”

The staff were genuinely friendly and pleasant. The building’s age shows, but the rooms and common areas were filthy and dusty; the AC cover was taped on and felt off. We only had hot water, and it was greasy.

This accommodation is something you have to experience; I’d say you’ll find yourself returning many times over the years. Every little inconvenience is more than made up for by the place’s atmosphere.

The hotel sits a short walk from the eastern entrance of Death Valley and is full of historic charm, décor and frescoes, making the stay feel poetic and moving. We left very satisfied despite the usual limitations of a property that’s a century old.
