“VERGANE GLORIE”

The hotel is conveniently central and most staff are helpful and friendly. The bar bistro DuCo serves an excellent breakfast. The hotel’s façade shows worn and partially broken marble tiles right at the entrance, and the whole property feels outdated. It consists of several buildings that aren’t shown in the photos, forcing guests to navigate a maze of corridors with varying heights to reach their rooms. Arriving with luggage was especially awkward. The standard rooms are essentially cages installed in the original building, with a glass wall on the outside that offers no ventilation and sits about 1 meter from the exterior window. Four of these cages share a single original exterior window, resulting in dark, bleak rooms with little light and no view. The receptionist said this was clearly described, so she couldn’t change it. I searched for the reference many times but never found it. It used to be a palace, but little of that remains.

The room was spacious with good beds. The bathroom light turned on automatically, which was annoying when I had to go to the toilet at night.

The dinner was the best, and the breakfast followed. The room’s location was a downside.

“Redelijk, maar hulp met de bagage is nodig”

The palace is nicely located in the city center. The stairs to the upper floors are steep and there are two sets of stairs in the hotel, making it unsuitable for seniors. Very disappointing.
