The newly renovated pub is immaculate, with charm and warmth in both the rooms and staff. The breakfast is gorgeous and the staff are friendly. We would definitely come back when visiting friends locally. Thank you – this has been the best stay we've had anywhere for a long time.

The pub is stunning, with fantastic renovation work and a gorgeous outdoor garden area to sit in. We had a fantastic room on the top floor. The breakfast was stunning and we met the landlady's daughter, who was lovely. The breakfast was beautiful. We ate our evening meal at the pub down the road. Unfortunately, the menu at Y Castel was too "high end" for us and we wanted a hearty pub‑style dinner with our "loud" mini daxie. We didn't want to disturb guests having a sophisticated meal with our dog.

The continental breakfast was fine for us. I think the food was a bit pricey, but otherwise the quality was excellent.

The room was clean and comfortable, but the staff weren't very friendly and the breakfast was only a basic continental spread—just bread, cereal, and two average pastries. It wasn't clear that only a continental breakfast was included, which is odd for a Welsh accommodation, and the staff had a take‑it‑or‑leave‑it attitude, which was a bit disappointing.

The bed was very comfortable and the fixtures and fittings were top quality, giving me a great night’s sleep. However, we were heading to a wedding and had a lot of clothes to hang, yet the room had no space for multiple outfits and the only full‑length mirror was behind the single short‑outfit area, so we couldn't use it while other clothes were hanging. A full‑length mirror in a better‑lit part of the room would fix that. The evening meal offered only a 2‑ or 3‑course set menu, and if just one course had been available we’d have gone to The Castell instead.
