Pousada Luz do El Shaday

If I could give a hundred stars, I would; this inn is undoubtedly the best place we've stayed in all of Brazil! New, pretty, super clean, the rooms are extremely comfortable with a cozy bed. The setting is beautiful, with a lovely garden and the stunning river of laziness behind it. The boat and kayak tour is special. The atmosphere is very relaxing, away from the noise and hustle of Barreira-índias but still with easy access. The inn also offers transfers for extra convenience. Breakfast is excellent with many options. Silvana and Joaquim’s attention and care went far beyond any expectation. Silvana is very attentive and helped all guests with tours and travel logistics. José and Sebastião are also great staff who do everything with great care. Everyone is very friendly. If you’re traveling to Barreira-índias, this is the place to stay! Absolutely nothing to complain about. This place is simply fantastic and I recommend it to everyone!!! I’ve never stayed at a place so perfect in every aspect.

The staff—Silvana, Joaquim, Ana, and José—were flawless, always going above and beyond to keep us comfortable and help us enjoy every moment. The lodge is new, with fresh, clean furnishings and a good shower. It’s a bit far from Beira‑Rio, where the city’s restaurants are, but the lodge offers a round‑trip transfer from the center. Other lodges also need transport because none are within walking distance of the center. That said, the lodge’s location is superb, right on the Rio Preguiças, and it hosts a welcome boat tour and provides kayaks for river exploration. The breakfast was excellent. Booking a room at Luz do El Shaday was one of the best decisions we made on our trip. We didn’t find anything we didn’t like during our stay.

The best hosts I’ve ever had at a lodge! Silvana and Joaquim greeted us with extreme friendliness, joy, and a readiness to help with anything we needed. I strongly recommend this lodge to anyone heading to the Lencois Maranhenses; after many years of traveling, this was one of the best experiences I’ve had!

My wife and I really enjoyed the lodge, the breakfast was hearty and varied, and the deck by the Rio Preguiças was wonderful. The lodge’s new facilities, along with Joaquim and Silvana—who are very pleasant, welcoming, and friendly—made a daily boat trip to Atins and provided kayaks for those who like it. They also arranged a surprise celebration for my wedding that surpassed our expectations with perfect décor; my wife was speechless. The distance from the center wasn’t an issue because we drove; it’s a bit farther from the center, but the quiet is great for those who want to rest. The hosts will know about this; my wife has been dealing with anxiety for months, and the natural setting was a great therapy.
