“A mixed experience at Maison Blanche, but would still recommend because of the positives.”
The property’s location is perfect for catching morning sunrises, with incredible views over the Taormina coastline and refreshing coastal breezes. The hostess, Giovanna, is amazingly helpful and friendly, and there is parking access—though we had to ask her and her husband to help us get out. The breakfasts are tasty and plentiful. Unfortunately, the air conditioning didn’t work, so we slept with the windows open the first two nights, which meant we got bitten by the many mosquitoes that are common in Taormina and other Sicilian cities. On the second night, a hotel across the street played disco music until 2 AM, which, combined with the mosquitoes, made that night almost unbearable. Our neighbors complained about the same issues. After the second night we raised the concerns with Giovanna, who promptly gave us a fan; the third night was then very pleasant, especially since the music stopped at 2 AM. The accommodation is about a 15‑minute walk from town center, either up a winding road or by stairs, and you can also take a local bus or drive (parking is a problem once you arrive). We walked for exercise, but the second and third evenings it rained heavily and the road turned into a virtual river, preventing us from heading into town for dinner. This is normal for coastal Italian towns, but it highlighted that a more centrally located hotel would have made it easier to get around. Despite everything, we still recommend Maison Blanche as a place to stay.
