The staff were always friendly and welcoming, helpful and accommodating. The location is fantastic for exploring the city, with a bus stop downstairs that takes you into town. Free parking is available behind the pub so you can leave your car and use public transport instead. The family room layout was great; we booked the dual rooms this time and they worked well for our teens. The beds were so comfortable you sink into them after a day in the city. The decor, styling and historic fixtures of this old pub are stunning and it truly is a beautiful pub. However, there was a lot of dust in our rooms during this visit. It was thick on the picture rails, and I had to move our bed to reach a power point; the wall, bed, skirting, and floor were all covered in dust bunnies. The cleaners need to move furniture when they clean, not just vacuum around items, and they should wipe down picture rails and tops of wardrobes. All four of us needed antihistamines every day because of the dust, which set off our noses with sneezing and burning eyes. We’re not a family that usually needs antihistamines, and we’ve stayed here multiple times without this issue. The shared floor bathrooms were never fully clean, but they were much worse this trip. The smoking situation was very disappointing; it’s a no‑smoking floor, yet the smell was thick and other guests were clearly smoking inside, in the shared bathrooms, and in other common areas. There wasn’t much airflow, so the smell lingered. I couldn’t use one toilet at one point because the cigarette smell was suffocating. This isn’t great for a no‑smoking, family‑friendly space, and it’s not typical of our past stays here, so we hope it won’t continue to be a problem for other guests.

Everything about the place was great: the rooms stayed spotless, the food was enjoyable, and the Wi‑Fi worked flawlessly. We really liked staying at the hotel, though housekeeping could use a bit more attention on the shared toilets and bathrooms. The rest was good.

The room and facilities matched the photos, check‑in was easy and the place is accessible. It was hard to sleep because the pub downstairs was loud, which was expected but still quite noisy.
