“Angenehmer Aufenthalt”

The location, the historic castle, and the room were all excellent. There were a few minor complaints, but overall the impression was very positive.

The room was super nice with a cozy seating area, a desk, and an amazing large bathroom. There were seating areas inside and outside, and the breakfast in the vaulted cellar was fantastic; the staff were incredibly attentive. It was just a great atmosphere. We also got to climb down into a lower cellar that hadn’t been restored, which was exciting. I was disappointed that you couldn’t swim in the lake, nor in any of the nearby lakes. A small fridge on the room would be nice, and motion‑sensor lights at the front door and in the hallway would help because it’s pretty dark when you come back at night.

“Aufgrund des alten Gemäuers einer Wasserburg eine besondere Atmosphäre. Gibt´s nicht so oft.”

The Burg Boetzelaer isn’t “central”, but that’s obvious when you book a place there. Since we were driving—how else would you get around the Lower Rhine?—a central spot wasn’t a priority. I liked the personalized room décor and the quiet in the Kutscherhaus, even though the main building sits close to the highway entrance. That distance doesn’t bother me in the Kutscherhaus. Breakfast was generous, with fresh fruit (not canned), cucumber, pepper, tomatoes, cold cuts, ham, cheeses, preserves (including the regional beetroot jam), a variety of muesli, bread, rolls, and even raisin white bread. The only downside is the need to walk a bit between the sleeping area and the main building where breakfast is served; the architecture just dictates that. Only during heavy rain—something we never experienced—might that feel a bit uncomfortable.

The place was clean. There was no bar, so you had to fetch your drink from the fridge on the hallway yourself.
