“Amazing location”
The place is amazing and the staff are friendly, though it can get a bit noisy, which is understandable given the location.

I was completely disappointed. The old renovation, worn-out furniture, dirt, tiny rooms with dim lighting, high noise levels that made it impossible to sleep at night and forced me to wake up early in the morning, constant bad odors in the room from either dampness or a sink drain, an elderly woman who doesn’t speak English, and most frighteningly, I was bitten by bedbugs or fleas in this awful hostel, so my whole body is itching now. I’m terrified of bringing these insects home.

The place is quite quiet, easily accessible, and the room is very comfortable and clean. Even though it’s in a busy neighborhood, the building remains fairly silent. I think the rooms facing the street are allowed to smoke, but because they’re small, the cigarette smell spreads throughout the hostel.

I’d suggest two tiny tweaks: add a blackout curtain because light leaks in from the stairwell/elevator side and put a grille under the door to improve airflow. At 1 am one night two people were chatting in the building lobby, which felt like having them in my bedroom. The location is great and convenient for the daily 12 km walk.

If location is your main priority, this is a great spot—right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and old town, with Barceloneta beach and other major sights within walking distance. The bathroom is shared, as most old‑town hotels are, but the owner keeps the communal bathroom and toilet sparkling clean, so I had no trouble accessing them during my visit at the end of September. The bedroom was larger than expected, with plenty of storage and hanging space; some rooms even have a small balcony, which I loved. The “single” beds are actually larger than standard UK single beds, and the mattress and pillow were so comfortable that I slept well throughout my 5‑night stay. The walls are paper‑thin, as is common in old buildings, but a good pair of ear plugs solves that. They offer room service every day, which I really appreciate—it’s always spotless when I return. On the first day I didn’t realize they had this service, so I left money, my wallet, and other items on my desk, but the housekeeping ladies were honest and professional, and I always found my valuables untouched. The lift is another great feature, a rarity for properties of this type, saving you from lugging luggage up three floors. The elderly lady who runs the place is kind and friendly; I wish I could speak Spanish to chat with her more.
