The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The staff who attended me were very kind and responded quickly when I booked. In the bathroom there was no shampoo or conditioner, no large towels, and the water was cold—so we couldn’t shower. There was also no mirror, and my boyfriend couldn’t shave. In the room where I stayed, the Wi‑Fi didn’t reach, so I couldn’t work. There was no alternative.
“Prima villa in door orkaan geteisterd gebied”
A lovely, clean room in this villa, almost right on the beach. The lady was helpful and handed us a mini‑fridge, plates, glasses and cutlery. It’s impressive how fast the villa was refurbished after Hurricane Melissa hit; the town of Black River has been completely wiped out, and it will take years to recover. Because of that, the pool, garden and beach were inaccessible or unappealing to spend time at.
“Prachtig verblijf”
Fantastic view and a super‑beautiful, large room. No Wi‑Fi connection was possible and the pool could use a cleaning.
“Sehr schöne Lage und Zimmer”
A nice, large room with a terrace overlooking the sea, newly renovated. The room facilities were very good and the bathroom was big. The location was quiet with direct beach access. The pool was unusable because it was dirty. The terrace lounge chairs were broken and unusable. There was no breakfast option and no shop for drinks in the hotel. The staff were only available at check‑in and no further information about the room or the area was provided.
Nothing, we had to find an alternative. We knew about the hurricane and were prepared for the aftermath, but we learned on the spot that power had only been restored 14 days ago. I don’t want to say much about the country’s situation; I’m sorry for what happened. But the accommodation didn’t give us any warning, the pictures look fine as if everything were back to normal. The reality is quite different: the pool is 3/4 full and green, the garden is devastated and debris is still everywhere. The façade and terrace are destroyed. A fishing boat lies in the left side of the garden. It hurts to write this, the sight keeps my eyes from drying. The accommodation should have informed us; I don’t think that’s good.
