“Quiet, nice and excellent stay for those who enjoy a comfy, traditional stay in Kyoto.”
We had a great time at Guest House Arashiyama, run by a lovely elderly couple who still speak English. They kept the place traditional and well maintained, which I appreciated. The guest house is ideal for two people and a small child. Nearby, a post office ATM offered good exchange rates, a large supermarket stocked fresh foods, and local shops served tasty meals, like a very nice udon shop with great prices. Highlights include comfy futon beds on tatami, tea, coffee, and a small fridge for snacks, a decent Japanese-style bath, a shared little garden with the owner that I liked, free wash machines, and a TV and AC that work well—just watch the AC vent above the futon if you don’t mind the heat. The only drawback was that the toilet lacks a modern Japanese bidet, but that’s not a big deal.
