“I won't forget the kindness of the host or the comfort of this delightful desert Riad.”
From the instant I stepped into the Riad, it felt like a calm, comfortable oasis. The owner welcomed me and guided me through the gates into his private courtyard with my motorcycle, offered tea immediately, and made me feel incredibly at ease. The room he showed me was exceptional—beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and so tidy I could have eaten dinner on any flat surface. Compared to many other places I’ve stayed on this trip, it was clear that the owner takes immense pride in his work. The bed was beautifully made with impeccably clean white linen, and the branded fluffy towels were a lovely touch. I was the sole guest for the two days at Riad Moha, and when I asked about local dining spots, he offered me dinner with him—something I gladly accepted. Breakfast was already included, but for an extra EUR10 per night, he cooked me two very delicious meals that matched my preferences. Though not restaurant‑quality, the home cooking was impressive for the price and for being his only guest; the three courses left me very happy. While staying at the Riad, I requested recommendations for local quad biking and camel riding, and the owner arranged both at a reasonable cost with reliable guides, took me to the meeting points, and personally ensured I returned to the Riad afterward. I also needed to visit a pharmacy during my stay, and he kindly drove me into town in his car to help me find the items I needed. If you ever want to visit Merzouga and are looking at accommodation options, look no further than Riad Moha; it’s both beautiful and surprisingly reasonable in cost. The only downside is that the Riad is about a mile from the town centre, but that’s also why it’s quiet and not far if you need anything, and Erg Chebbi is walkable in the evening if you want some sand between your toes after dinner!
