The area is lovely with magnificent trees and the Thames by the lock, but the rooms are small, dark, and dingy and could use a spruce‑up; the reception staff were disinterested upon arrival.

We enjoyed a family room at the main property, everything was perfect. The large private park overlooking the Thames is a great evening stroll, breakfast is fabulous, and dishes are made to order instead of the usual buffet. The staff were adorable, especially the person who greeted us at reception and found a room that met our expectations.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was nice, breakfast was good, and the grounds beside the riverside are lovely for walks. Unfortunately, one of the reasons we booked was the indoor pool, which was still closed the day after we arrived, so we couldn’t use it.

The hotel is excellent and very classy, but the fire alarms were unexpected.
