“Very clean, comfortable rooms and excellent food.”
The breakfast was excellent and cooked to order. The only downside was the weather!

The lounges, the view, the setting, and the EV charging were great. Management didn’t communicate with the young but enthusiastic staff about the bar menu being available only from Monday to Thursday.

The rooms were very nice, and mine was also very quiet, which I appreciated. The bar was very convivial, and all staff were pleasant, efficient, and friendly. Unfortunately, I didn’t stay long enough to use all the facilities, but I’ll try again next time! My only issue was that the room I stayed in was in a separate building from the main hotel, and from there it was quite a trek up a steep hill to reach the carpark. I didn’t have much to carry, but my colleague had a lot of gear, and even dropping it off at the main reception and walking up from there wasn’t easy. Someone showed us a shortcut across the grass to the carpark, but that only works if the grass is as dry as it was when we visited. When we reached the top of the hill, a leaking water pipe had turned the surrounding area into a bog, which we struggled to navigate. None of this is the hotel’s fault, but I think the distance of some rooms from reception should be made clearer when booking, as elderly or disabled guests would have trouble getting up the hill to the accommodation buildings.

The hotel itself was beautiful and the breakfast was good. The bed was very comfortable, and the tea/coffee facilities were great. The bathroom also had lovely shower gels and a very good shower. The lady checking us in at reception kept putting her fingers in her mouth and handing us paper and a pen afterward, which I found unacceptable. Instead of a room in the hotel, we were given a room in the courtyard. The room was okay but not very clean; the headboard was thick with dust, there were a few spiders, and the windowsills had mold. Some parts of the bathroom also had mold, and part of the wall had mold with wallpaper peeling. The TV remote was covered in grime and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. I actually had to dampen a towel and clean the room and remote before I could use it.

The hotel had a very traditional Olde English vibe that I liked, and the restaurant was great. They had an iron and ironing board, but there was no fridge in the room and I couldn’t catch BBC1 on the small TV. The leisure facilities required advance booking and an extra fee.
