“Beautiful building in a fantastic location”

Beautiful hotel, the gardens are exceptional. Breakfast was delightful as well. The elevator needs updating – it was so slow I thought it wouldn’t make it up! Also, the artwork in the stairwell doesn’t match the elegance of the rest of the property; it’s very modern and off‑putting.

We were thrilled with our time at Butler House; the roomy accommodations carried a charming historical vibe that made the place feel genuinely tied to Kilkenny’s past. Breakfast stood out as a highlight, consistently something we looked forward to each morning. The rear gardens were lovely and offered a peaceful retreat. The location was superb, with Kilkenny Castle and the town center within easy walking distance, making city exploration hassle‑free. In short, Butler House delivered the mix we sought: historic charm, spacious rooms, memorable breakfast, beautiful grounds, and a prime spot. The only drawback was that the rooms tended to warm up, so we had to open the windows for fresh air; extra fans would have made the space more comfortable.
