Everything was top‑notch. The place has a rich history and is kept in great shape. Cleanliness was spot‑on and everyone was super friendly. We got to chat with the Linden team – Brian, Jessy, and Linnan – and learned a lot about the centre’s cultural project and local history. No changes needed.

The spot is perfect if you want to be in the ancient town, but the AC was busted and the laundry came late, so we had to chase it. On top of that, the front desk was empty when we tried to check out at 8 am even though we’d texted them on WeChat the night before. Still, the location was great.

“Hôtel dans une maison traditionnel à proximité des rizières et de la vielle ville de Xizhou”

Right in the middle of Xizhou village, the staff were kind and the traditional house looked beautiful, with mosquito nets that actually worked. The lunch was a huge Chinese feast. The only downside? You can only drive in during the day.

Brian always says, “Isn’t it a joy to have friends come from afar?” and that’s exactly what we felt. The historic Bai courtyard home was lovingly restored into the Linden Centre, and even though we missed Brian and Jennie in Beijing, the whole team treated us like family. Mason was polite and spoke great English, Ivy at the front desk was helpful, and the housekeeper went out of her way to make us feel special. We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary there, and the room décor was gorgeous.

“Liebevoll restauriertes Hotel in Toplage mit tollem Service”

We really enjoyed staying at the Linden Centre with Brian, who we even met in person. He’s poured a lot of love into renovating the old‑style building and supports the local community. The staff are super helpful and speak good English. Xizhou is a bit commercial now, but still a great spot to explore Erhai Lake and Dali. Brian also suggested a hike in Shaxi, where we saw the Linden Centre again.
