“Schmuckes Hotel mit Palmen und Riviera-Feeling”

The house was very lovingly and imaginatively furnished, and the breakfast was freshly made to my liking every time. Room 10 on the second floor was pretty and comfortable with a view of Belgrave Rd. A welcoming, fairly large terrace with big palms and nice touches gave off a great “English Riviera” vibe right outside the house. The location is perfect—just a short walk down to the beach and promenade to the harbor/center, about 10 to 15 minutes to the station, and plenty of buses heading in all directions. The only downside was that my room was never cleaned at all during the week. The sanitary bins in the bathroom and the trash cans were never emptied, and even though I was reminded, I still had to fetch toilet paper from downstairs myself. That’s not the standard you’d expect from a ☆☆☆☆ listed hotel, and it really bothered me.

We skipped breakfast, but the house was stunning with eclectic décor, the rooms were spotless, the owners were helpful and welcoming, and the outside terrace was a nice touch—nothing else to note.

First, The Southbank is ideally situated just a 3‑minute walk from the beach and all the bars and restaurants. It stands out from the front with fabulous palm trees and a fresh coat of paint, giving a very inviting first impression. There’s a fun terrace at the front, shielded from the road by the palms, where you can have breakfast or a drink. Inside, The Southbank is gorgeously decorated; there’s a lovely large hall, a library/sitting room, a breakfast room, and a bar. Loved the décor—absolutely stunning! I didn’t want to leave. Our room was super comfortable, and even though it was the smallest room I had, it was a good size and beautifully decorated. I just loved The Southbank, probably the loveliest B&B I’ve stayed in; I could have stayed longer. Very good value for money. The breakfast was delicious—what more could you ask for? Graham, our host, was super friendly and welcoming. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
