“Fantastic stay in a great location”

The hosts were wonderful! They cooked us a meal and celebrated Sri Lanka’s new year with us, going above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We worked online and the Wi‑Fi worked well as long as the power stayed on, which was out of their control and didn’t cut out often or for long. The location was great—far enough off the main road to avoid noise, and you only hear the train if you’re paying attention. The beach is just a couple of minutes’ walk away! It gets a bit loud on Friday nights, but they provide earplugs, and there’s a party just down the block that blares music into the night.

The hosts were very kind and friendly. Overall, the hotel felt clean, family‑like, and cozy. It sits in a great spot—central city but tucked into a side street. A big plus was the daily housekeeping and bed‑changing. Unfortunately, breakfast isn’t available in the room, but they offer coffee or tea each day. A lovely surprise was when the hosts offered to make us breakfast themselves, which we enjoyed and appreciated. They also helped arrange transfers to other destinations. Another benefit is the fully equipped common kitchen and a rooftop grill with seating overlooking the sea. Everything else was fine for us. The only issue was the nearby railway line, which is a city problem since the tracks run through the center. We also had music playing at night from nearby venues on Friday, but that’s a city noise issue, not a hotel fault.

“Aanrader!”

The welcome was friendly and warm, the room was clean and spacious, and the location was good, with no disturbance from the train that almost passes right by your room 😃. Susan, Tushare, and Sunny boy all wanted to make sure you had a pleasant stay without being pushy. It was a very pleasant experience! The only downside was that the shower water pressure could be a bit higher.

The staff and owners were super friendly! They invited us to a curry dinner on the rooftop, the food was amazing! Highly recommend!

“I can’t wait to come back!”

Alva’s House is the best place to stay in Hikkaduwa. It’s minutes from the beach, offers delicious food and shopping. The hosts are lovely and welcoming, and they have the most wonderful cats and dogs, especially that orange cat! I refuse to say anywhere but Alva’s House! I loved every moment of my stay at Alva’s house.
