The café the next day was good, but I had to pay 25 francs for not having the bed made.

It was a great stay with a good location, and everything was perfect.

The direct view from the dining room of the Jugi to the Matterhorn was incredible! We booked three extra dinners, which turned out to be a good decision. The food was excellent, and Chef Umberto was a real gem. In the otherwise sterile, impersonal atmosphere of the Jugi, we felt quite comfortable. We stayed in a sparsely furnished double room (even with its own bathroom), but it had no view. That’s just how it is in Zermatt, because the buildings cling to the slope like swallow’s nests. The city bus (red line 672) runs every 30 minutes from the village up to the Jugi, stopping at Luchre – and that’s fine: the many stairs up to the Jugi are a challenge we didn’t want to tackle (we’re over 70). However, even though the room was on the second floor, it was pitch dark inside (the slope and meadow directly in front of the window; guests from the hotel behind us with their rolling suitcases barely passed 2 m from the window). There was only one floor lamp in the bare room, making it somewhat uncomfortable overall.

What I liked most was that opening the window let me see the Matterhorn, saving me the early walk outside. The breakfast included yogurt, bread, and a coffee machine, which were good. The upper and lower rooms weren’t fixed, so when I turned over they would shake completely; maybe fixing them would prevent mutual disturbance. Arriving at the hostel involves stairs, which is a bit unfriendly for travelers with heavier luggage; you can instead take the paved road.
