“Great retro vibe, horrible retro AC.”

Honestly, I really loved the old‑school vibe of the place. We got an actual key for our room, the lady who checked us in was an absolute sweetheart, the property was quiet and convenient, and the room was clean. As much as I liked the property and the staff, the in‑room AC unit was terrible. The thermostat was set at too wide a range and there was no option to keep the fan on constant with the AC running. I woke up multiple times too warm, even with the AC at its coldest setting, and got practically no sleep because of it. Everything else about this place was great, but if I can’t sleep in a hotel, what’s the point in staying?

The Foster Inn skips breakfast and a pool, yet I gave it a 10/10 because the value far exceeds what you’d expect from a low‑budget, no‑frills motel. It’s truly a no‑frills spot, but the rate is very reasonable and the accommodations surpass the price. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, the carpet looked new, and the fridge even had a freezer compartment, which many hotel fridges lack—useful for keeping ice packs cold. The owners and staff were helpful, handing me plasticware to eat the previous evening’s leftovers for breakfast. The location was great; we’d been to a show in Monticello that evening and planned to explore Allerton Park afterward. The only downside was that the bathroom light switches could use a deeper clean in the crevices. Other than that, the place was very clean. Some reviews mentioned flat pillows; while they’re not puffy, I found them quite acceptable.
