Seehotel Kastanienbaum

The view is gorgeous and the hotel is also a stop for the cruise to Luzern, where we bought tickets at reception; a bus stop is right outside. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the pillows are extremely soft, the duvet is thin for winter, there’s no kettle, soundproofing is poor, and the spa baths and taps are cold with only one working shower.

The location was fabulous, though we had a ground‑floor room and the view was blocked by a slab.

The location is great, but there’s no real lounge with a proper bar. The director told us in a very pre‑German tone to enjoy the whisky at the restaurant table. The bar menu is awful—no cocktails, no Cointreau. The bartenders are unenthusiastic. It’s a shame for such a beautiful spot. We suggest the director take a training course in Tirol.

The setting overlooking the lake is amazing, the front desk staff were really helpful, and the access to swim in the lake was brilliant with a generous terrace for outdoor drinks and dining, but we were told we had to eat inside because they didn’t have enough staff to serve us outside, and the indoor dining area is too brightly lit and not very welcoming.
