“An overpriced and disappointing stay with poor customer service, uncomfortable accommodations, and a”
I paid $2,190.23 for a three‑night stay and was extremely disappointed with the accommodations, customer service, and overall experience. I booked on September 8 under the Royal Sonesta name, but arrived to find the property operating as Hotel 505, without any advance notification that I recall receiving. The photographs I remember seeing during booking appeared to depict a different Royal Sonesta property, with a riverfront setting and green‑and‑white room decor. Instead, we received a red, theater‑themed room that was nothing like what I expected. The shower leaked excessive water onto the bathroom floor, the beds were uncomfortably firm, the television constantly buffered, and the guest account did not work. The room also lacked an iron and coffee maker, and the mirrored sliding bathroom door offered inadequate privacy. Customer service was equally disappointing. At check‑in, I requested two room keys but received only one. Staff provided little information about hotel amenities. On our second evening, around 8 PM, our only key card stopped working, preventing us from accessing both the elevators and our room. The front desk replaced it but seemed unconcerned about the inconvenience. We also experienced a confusing housekeeping interaction that required Google Translate to resolve. At checkout, I requested a printed receipt but was told to obtain it instead. I spent three months carefully planning this mother‑daughter trip around the hotel I believed I had booked. The unexpected accommodations and location disrupted our itinerary, resulted in additional Uber expenses, and contributed to our missing several planned attractions. For more than $2,190, I expected comfortable accommodations, attentive service, clear communication, and an experience consistent with the advertised property. Unfortunately, this stay fell far below those expectations. I would not choose this hotel again.
