“If you can’t afford to stay at another hotel, then stay here. If not spend the difference and stay somewhere else.”

The spot was pretty decent, but the city bus was a total waste of time; I’d rather have paid to park than spend 40 minutes getting from downtown to the hotel. The building looked drab and hadn’t been updated in years, the mattresses were worn out and the air conditioner made noise all night even though it worked.

The place was fine and the creek view was great, but a metal frame piece sticking out 2–3 inches in the middle of the bed tore up my ankle, cut and bruised me in the middle of the night. The TV set‑up was horrible with no guide, so you have no idea what’s on or when.

“We’ve stayed at this location 26 out of the last 30 years and have seen the place go completely downhill.”

The location was fine, but the room was full of box elder bugs and other hard‑shell bugs.

“All-in-all, it was a great stay. Not many negative things to say about the Gulch. We love it there”

I liked how many rooms were available; we were camping in Spearfish, but fell ill and decided a room would be better, so we booked it 6 minutes before checking in. The room was very comfortable and we only used it to sleep, never even turning on the TV. The last time we stayed, there was complimentary breakfast, but when I went to the breakfast lounge to find a fork for a bit of supper—since the company didn’t supply one for pasta—I found an empty room; I did find a spoon, so that helped. It feels like they removed the complimentary breakfast and expect us to pay for it.
