The house is beautiful. The reserve is on your doorstep. I love that you can order boxes of food kits to make/use or even have food catered in your house. The kitchen and bedrooms are great; everything was perfect. We didn’t know that the garden cottage was ours and were very confused that I was missing a bedroom the first night! Only on the second night did we see the new room and moved one guest down—proper handover would have been expected.

We’ve stayed at the house many times over the years and it still feels charming and stylish. The staff were super friendly and helpful. One night we dined at the main house, which was great, and otherwise we used the braai by the pool. We managed a nature drive one evening and spotted a few animals, including a family of bat‑eared foxes. A tip: always bring warm clothing regardless of the weather, because it’s windier and colder away from the house. One of the game‑drive guests mentioned a pair of barn owlets in the farm silo, and we photographed them the next day. We visited the tortoise rescue centre and had a really good chat with the lady who was busy measuring the little ones before releasing them into the larger enclosure in the reserve. Overall, a really great stay. Nothing negative.

This was our second trip to Bartholomeus Klip, staying in the self‑catering Wild Olive Cottage, which gave us the spaciousness of a home while still having the wonderful cooking and staff of the hotel right at our doorstep – so we didn’t need to self‑cater at all! Loved everything. Would gladly have stayed another week.
