“Travelling with a dog? Read this first”
The room was clean, cozy, and a great deal for what we paid, but the staff ruined an otherwise good stay. I had told them during booking that we were traveling with a dog, and no restrictions were mentioned. At check‑in I paid the pet fee and got the room without any questions. A few minutes later, our dog barked at housekeeping in the hallway, and suddenly we were told that dogs over 50 lbs (our dog is 120 lbs) weren’t allowed and that our dog shouldn’t bark. We were offered a refund and asked to leave, but they eventually let us stay on the condition that she wouldn’t bark again. If you advertise your hotel as pet‑friendly, you can’t expect animals to be silent. Dogs bark sometimes, especially in new surroundings, and expecting complete silence is unrealistic. The whole situation was incredibly stressful. At checkout the receptionist seemed a little surprised when she mentioned that nobody had complained about our dog. Were they expecting complaints just because we had a dog? If that’s the attitude toward pet guests, it’s hard to understand what makes this hotel pet‑friendly. It’s a shame because the room itself was excellent. Clear rules and a little more understanding would have made all the difference.
