“Best hotel in Istanbul that I found online and exceeded my expectations”
This was one of the best hotels I've stayed at. Even though I booked the lowest tier room, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has a legit desk. Also, the long hallway within the room added some much needed size to the room. I checked in super late, and the friendly older gentleman working the front desk answered my questions to the best of his linguistic ability. In fact, every receptionist I dealt with was helpful—from Muhammad the Bengali all the way to the manager (who also doubles as a receptionist). Whenever the manager called me "monsieur", I truly felt like a VIP man, and I even started calling him "monsieur" back. I never tried the breakfast because I was waking up late during my stay in Istanbul, but I like how the dining area seemed open all day—at least to sit there. That said, I was able to hear the traffic outside from inside my room, but I didn't feel like it ever woke me up, and I actually appreciated the "company". It was nice to occasionally people-watch the bustling streets of Fatih from the balcony. The hood is probably comprised of Turks, Arabs, and Kurds—with the occasional tourist here & there. Near the hotel, I found a couple of dry cleaners, and I never tried the hotel's dry cleaning service advertised on the menu in the room. The big supermarket across the street was a lifesaver. All in all, this hood has a lot of shops, and the tram that goes to the historical part of Sultanahmet is a gamechanger. A previous guest must have spilled some olive oil or something like that on the drawers under the desk, and I understand if the cleaning lady didn't see that. However, some surfaces in the room appeared to be unwiped, mainly lint that came from the AC or something like that. Speaking of the AC, it's effective, but it can make inconsistent sounds after prolonged use, such as crackling sounds. One morning, I was woken up by the cleaning lady vacuuming a nearby room. It wasn't the vacuum's sound per se that caused the awakening, but more the vacuum itself making contact with the walls, floor, and so on. She also seemed to be on a heated phone call. Maybe once a day on average, a spicy organic tobacco aroma entered my room, probably for several minutes at a time. In other words, another guest was probably smoking. I mitigated this by cracking open a window. The shower stall looked clean but finished in a rush, such as rough finishing where the floor meets the walls. This is a fully aesthetic concern and shouldn't affect the quality of your showers. Finally, the manager theorized that YouTube wasn't working on my TV because of the rain, but at least he tried to make it work. The desk chair felt more like a fancy dining chair, but from my experience, most people seem to be fine with this kind of chair
