Located two hundred metres from Gran Vía and steps from the metro, Hostal El Catalán sits in vibrant Chueca, with Fuencarral Street a five‑minute walk away. Air‑conditioned rooms feature flat‑screen TVs, minibars, private bathrooms with free toiletries, and optional balconies offering city views. Guests enjoy free Wi‑Fi, a lift, on‑site microwave, and safe, while museums, bars, shops and restaurants lie within easy walking distance.

The location and closeness to Madrid’s main spots were among the best, and the facilities were comfortable; I recommend it for couples. The weekend we stayed was noisy on the streets, probably due to city celebrations, and they should install a noise barrier.

The accommodation is very central, so you can walk to everything easily. It’s not a luxury place, but it’s clean and tidy. Daily cleaning and towel changes are a definite plus for a city trip. The only downside was an unpleasant smell coming repeatedly from the toilet, likely from old plumbing, though I didn’t notice it in my room.

When I stayed the elevator wasn’t working, making it very difficult for someone of my age to carry a heavy suitcase up, and there was no notice explaining the issue.
