The bathroom had no curtains, and on the first morning there was no hot water, so the shower was cold.

The spot is really appealing, with houses around the square boasting beautiful facades and brickwork, and during our weekend the vibe was notably relaxed and friendly despite the mix of Dutch and German guests who showed genuine interest in each other’s habits; be sure to try restaurant FOLKERTS – it’s absolutely superb. The hotel itself looks clearly dated, with a style that a broker would call “unique”; on the NZ Voorburgwal you’ll notice the steep staircases, step‑by‑step climbs and squeaky floors, making hauling luggage upstairs a real test of ingenuity and strength.
