I had expected a pleasant stay with comfort, peace, and good service, and it turned out to be quite positive. What I liked most was the reception and how all the staff treated us. One of them offered us a guided tour, including a garden tour and visits to the mines. Even though I wasn’t interested in the tour, it was very calm and respected our decision without pushing. They also helped with our luggage and made us feel very comfortable throughout the stay. Another highlight was the location, which made getting around easier. I also appreciated receiving keys to the main gates, giving us more freedom to come and go as we wished. Breakfast was well supplied with pão de queijo, pão francês, sliced fruit, crackers, cake, ham, cheese, black coffee, milk, and hot water with various teas. Overall, the lodge exceeded my expectations, especially due to the good service, freedom, and welcome we received. It was a pleasant experience that left me satisfied with my choice. During my stay I noticed a few areas that could use improvement. The environment had a slight musty smell, probably because we traveled during a rainy period. Being an old building, common in Ouro Preto, it’s important to pay special attention to ventilation and humidity, especially for guests with allergies. The lodge lacks air conditioning, a holder for shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, or a hair dryer. The bath towels were plain and quite worn, some with stains. The same went for some bedding, which also had stains and could be better cared for. Another important point is the access, as the main entrance has a steep staircase, making it difficult for people with reduced mobility and effectively preventing wheelchair access. The passage to the parking lot is also very narrow, allowing only one person at a time in the corridor and stairs. Additionally, the parking is uncovered and accessed from the upper street. I understand this isn’t a five‑star lodge and that Ouro Preto has many old buildings, but I believe simple investments like renewing towels and bedding, installing bathroom holders, and improving ventilation could make a big difference in guests’ experience. These details, if noticed by the owner, could help make the stay even more comfortable and enjoyable.
