A great stopover on the way to the Dordogne; kids splashed in the pool after the first stretch of driving, and the next day we reached our final destination quickly. It’s nice that everything can be done in Dutch.
“Rustic and basic accommodation in wildlife-rich countryside.”
The Logat felt like a rustic paradise with swallows everywhere and turtle doves cooing from the trees; we appreciated the mosquito screens on the windows. We had three rooms for just the two of us, which was good value and let us pick the coolest one during the heat. The inflatable pool was great to jump into after a long day of travel, though after a hot couple of days it was taken over by honey bees desperate for water. We swam at the lovely Belle Bouche lake, whose water only resembles beef consommé because of iron pigments, with pleasant shady beaches under the trees and a good café. The three‑bedroom house was next to the stables, emitting a strong horse smell in the hot weather, which was off‑putting for eating on the terrace. The property wasn’t fully clean and had brown cockroaches in the bathroom. We self‑catered and most of the crockery was stored too high for me to reach. We didn’t learn about the bar or information leaflets until we were leaving. The immediate countryside, while rich in wildlife, isn’t as interesting as the core Etang area of La Brenne, though it probably had fewer mosquitoes.
“Charmante maison avec piscine”
The place is charming, and the family running the cottage is absolutely adorable.
“Heerlijke overnachting op weg naar het zuiden”
Very quiet, a large garden for the kids, and a nice pool to enjoy. Breakfast was also excellent, rooms were spacious and had everything you need, and the people were very friendly. The downside was a bit of a mosquito problem because the window screens were either missing or didn’t fit properly, so the bugs still had free reign.
“Super week-end entre amis”
The hosts’ welcome was perfect, with helpful advice and attentive listening. The location let us meet halfway with friends, the pool was a treat, and the longère next to the pool, protected from the sun, allowed us to have a relaxed aperitif. The chickens, rooster, swallows, and the Belle Bouche pond with bird‑watching spots made it feel like a vacation preview. Everything went very well.
