The place had a unique vibe and was in a great spot.

The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, but some trails were sprayed with pesticides by local farmers and I came across a dead Strawberry Poison Dart Frog.

I enjoyed a spacious bedroom and large communal areas. Getting there required a long drive on a rocky road and crossing two suspension bridges, one of which was in poor condition; we chose the place for the view and wildlife, but rain and cloud cover meant we saw very little.

Being set in the forest was lovely even though it rained and the view was blocked, and the décor was attractive. Reaching the lodge meant navigating a long, rough track and two suspension bridges, one badly worn; we had to eat before arriving because the restaurant closed after 18:30 and only a hot sandwich was offered, and the only cold drink available was a warm beer or a hot Coke with ice since the fridge hadn’t been switched on. In the mornings, daylight filtered through the gaps between the lodge’s boards.
