Located 30 km from Edinburgh, it won AA's Scotland's Hotel Of The Year 2013/14. The hotel offers fine dining with a seasonal menu, utilizing local produce from its 400-year-old walled kitchen garden, in a peaceful rural setting near Edinburgh Airport.

The old‑fashioned etiquette, charm, politeness, and manners were evident with linen tablecloths and napkins, fresh flowers, and personal notes; the sheets were soft and silky cotton. The restaurant staff were respectful and polite. The à la carte menu seemed pricey when I asked for a sample, and it wasn’t a great option for someone who doesn’t eat much meat, so I chose not to dine there in the evening, but breakfast was exceptional, so don’t be put off.

The spot is gorgeous and the walled garden is absolutely stunning.

The scenery is amazing, the staff are very kind and helpful, and the beds are comfortable; however, the property looks tired, needs refurbishment, and feels expensive for what it offers.
