“A Peaceful Beach Escape with a Few Challenges”
We spent a fantastic week at Mecaja Beach House, enjoying every moment. The calm beach straight ahead of the house was ideal for relaxing and soaking in the natural scenery. Fresh, healthy food was a highlight: we ate garden‑grown veggies, tropical fruits, and seafood caught by local fishermen, all tasting fresh and authentic. Kayaking was a blast because a sandbar lies just a hundred meters from the house. The host/owner Gerd and Christian were incredibly welcoming and always ensured we were comfortable. We also saw the hanging bridge of Roxas thanks to the children’s hospitality. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, creating a warm atmosphere throughout our stay. Mecaja Beach House is perfect for anyone seeking peace, fresh food, beautiful surroundings, and genuine Filipino hospitality, and we’d gladly return. However, we did get a lot of niknik (sandfly) bites—about 76 on me—making it the most uncomfortable part, especially for the kids, so insect repellent is a must. Niknik are everywhere in Palawan, not just here. The trip to Mecaja Beach House was longer and tougher than expected, with rough road sections, but the peaceful setting made it worthwhile. Also, the rooms lack air conditioning; the natural surroundings are lovely, but the rooms can get hot, and the kids were uncomfortable. These issues could be improved, yet they didn’t spoil the beautiful location and warm hospitality.
