This hotel in Playa Blanca, Baru, is honestly one of the best I've stayed at - I've been back multiple times since my first visit. As my work trips to Cartagena often leave me with some downtime, I love to sneak away to Baru and stay here. The hotel consistently delivers, which is why I keep coming back.

We had a really mixed experience at Maggy Beach in Isla Barú. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made our initial excitement about the hotel turn sour when the problems started. Our room didn't match the photos, the door was in bad shape, and there were major issues with pests - cucarachas in the room one night, and a garrapata and a rana in my parents' room the next. To make things worse, we had to cancel our original booking to get a "deal" on breakfast and beach chairs.

This beachside hotel has its perks - the staff are seriously exceptional, the food is great, and the property is clean considering it's made up of beach huts. However, the beach itself is a different story. It's gorgeous but so crowded, with constant boat and jet ski noise, and aggressive vendors trying to scam you the minute you step onto the sand.
