The room layout was excellent with a small kitchen, everything was great and I’m thrilled to have such a perfect hotel right next to Berkeley University; I always stay here whenever I’m in town.
The location was fantastic, staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was lovely, rooms were clean, spacious, and well-equipped. I especially enjoyed the vibe at the Study Hall Rooftop Lounge, and the view of Berkeley campus and the San Francisco skyline from there was incredible.
We left some items at the front desk and were given a baggage claim slip, but when we returned nothing was found; initially they offered to buy the missing belongings, then changed their mind and emailed us asking us to prove we had left them despite the hotel slip. It’s clear our stuff was stolen, their camera system was apparently down and they couldn’t pull the footage even though we gave them the exact time from our Uber app. They said the hotel’s insurance would contact us, but three months later nothing has happened. The property may be fine physically, but the service and staff behavior are unacceptable; we’ll be filing a complaint. It’s disgraceful for a major chain like Marriott.
The spot is ideal for walking to campus—my child was in a summer program and only a 5‑minute walk to class. The room was roomy with a well‑stocked kitchen (small stove, fridge, a few pots/pans, silverware, etc.) where we cooked a couple of meals. Breakfast was excellent, kid‑friendly, and offered a good mix of hot and cold options, making it easy to grab a quick bite before heading out. Plenty of vegetarian choices are nearby for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend it.
