The hotel is a 5‑10 minute walk from Lucerne main station, so the first time I came I’d suggest going straight to the ground level to snap a tourist photo of the Torbogen archway with the “Welcome” sign—right opposite is Pier 1, where you can catch a boat to Weggis and Vitznau. Walk along the main road over the bridge, and once you’re familiar, you can head to the underground Coop, use the underpass to avoid traffic lights. That Coop is very busy, but the self‑checkout is fast; I’m not sure why the staffed counters are always in line. The front desk is in the hotel’s ground‑floor bar; after booking, the hotel emails you and sends a city card about three days before arrival, which gives free bus rides within zone 2 plus city Wi‑Fi. We already had a pass, so we didn’t download anything. We arrived around 11 pm, the bar was still closed, the door was locked but a window was open, so I shouted and a girl who was starting her shift helped us check in, wrote a note on our luggage, and left it in the bar. We went to Rigi Mountain, shopped at Coop, and returned around 6 pm. At the bar we checked in again and found our luggage had already been delivered to the room—this was the only place on this trip that had pre‑checked our bags, which was great. The front‑desk lady collected the city tax and destination tax (Lucerne charges two taxes), escorted us to the room, and showed us the back door, telling us to drop the room key in the box there when checking out. The back door leads straight onto a stone‑paved street that isn’t very friendly for luggage. The room met our needs and was big enough to lay two 27‑inch suitcases flat. We booked a river‑view + landmark‑view room and were pleasantly surprised to have a balcony overlooking the Kapellbrücke; we ate Coop chicken legs (a bit salty) on the balcony and watched a beautiful sunset. The only downside was a small issue with the towel rack in the bathroom: the lower middle section lifted slightly when drying the towel, but it didn’t scratch my hand. The bar downstairs was noisy from people eating, drinking, and chatting until about 10 pm; even after the balcony door was closed, there was still some sound—like a neighbor’s TV was a bit loud. When I tried to read or rest, I found my sleep shallow and it was hard to fall asleep, especially if you’re traveling with kids, so that’s something to consider.

The place was in a great spot, just a stone’s throw from the main train station and the river with lovely views, and the staff were fantastic, always ready to help with anything we needed. The cobbled streets were a bit of a hassle.

The door to the balcony didn’t close properly, so we heard more outside noise than we’d liked.
