The proprietor was not on site upon arrival, only his young daughter was there. The bedroom was not prepared—bed was unmade, a dirty towel was hanging on the door, the mattress was lumpy, the sheets were bobbled, the bin hadn’t been emptied, the bolt on the bedroom door didn’t work, and the door handle fell off in the morning. No fire regulations were displayed, no smoke alarm, and the light switch was loose on the wall. The overall room, including carpet and curtains, was dirty; the child’s Lion King wallpaper was off. The whole house smelled of stale curry.

All the positives were spot on, but the room door was a pain to unlock.

“scary, no locks on the doors and certainly felt uncomfortable staying there”

We never realized this was a room in a house, which made us feel cramped and awkward, especially since we had to share a bathroom; the hosts were out most evenings, so we felt uneasy using the bathroom when they were around and had to tiptoe; another guest arrived and we were asked to let him in, but he left quickly because he seemed unhappy with what he booked; there were no locks on any doors except their bedroom (which we heard them lock) and the downstairs lounge, which they unlocked before leaving for the evening; overall we felt unsafe and definitely misled. The truth of the listing should match what we actually booked, and the price should reflect the real offer.
