Located off Route 50 in the scenic West Elk Mountains, the Western Motel in Gunnison, Colorado, offers guest rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen cable TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, and tea/coffee-making facilities. On-site BBQ facilities, fax services, and vending machines are available. The motel is near Dos Rios Golf Club, Pioneer Museum, and numerous ghost towns, national parks, and forests, with Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport just 5 minutes away.

The front desk staff were nice and the room was very clean, but the light by my bed didn’t work.

Not much was good; as soon as I opened the door it was stunk, very dark, the lampshades were stained, the shower curtain was stained, and the beds were very springy. I slept in my clothes and kept my socks on because I feared what might be on the floor and bed. The A/C unit was the best part—it clinked and clanged loudly, with a high‑frequency hum that lasted all night, like torture. We had been traveling for two weeks and this was the worst hotel ever, yet it was also the most expensive. We stay in Denver and had a cheaper room; we travel a lot across the country, staying in hundreds of hotels, and this was the worst we’ve ever stayed in.

The spot is great, but the barroom could use a refresh.

The room was spacious enough, the beds were lovely, and there was a fridge; the breakfast was very basic and not impressive.
