“We enjoyed our time in Poundbury, and the Duchess of Cornwall went a long way towards that enjoyment”
The location, the rooms, the atmosphere, the staff and the cleanliness were all great.

Parking is easy near the residence, and the bar is huge, but drinks are very pricey— a pint and a glass of wine cost 17 pounds. Pondesbury feels like a bizarre Trumpian village created by Charles R, with a hotel/pub in an empty, soulless square; the Duchess of Cornwall is essentially a pub with rooms, hotel facilities, and no staff. If you have a dog, like we did, you’re put on the top floor where the temperature stays in the seventies even with all windows open, making it very uncomfortable if you don’t like warm rooms. I can’t imagine how it felt during the recent heatwave. The entrance and exit for residents is a side door and feels very un‑hotel‑like. In hindsight, Dorchester is a town to avoid if you want a traditional English country town with typical facilities.

I didn’t have breakfast, and it was expensive—9.

The building is lovely and parking is easy, but the tables in the bar and restaurant are sticky; it feels more like a big pub with rooms than a proper hotel, and it’s expensive for what it is.
