“Disappointing”
It’s not obvious from the listing what kind of place this is; I expected a guesthouse but it’s not even that. You’ll just be sleeping in someone’s spare bedroom in a regular house and that’s it. The hosts are there all the time and while they’re not intrusive (on the contrary they’re quite nice people) you won’t have much privacy. More sociable people might be okay with this situation and even enjoy it, but for us it was at best a little awkward. But that’s not the real problem. What actually bothers me is the quality of this accommodation. The room we got was missing a window pane; it was just blocked with something I don’t even know what. We had to stay up at night (working late) and it got really cold at some point – there was no way to help this situation. Well technically there is a wood‑burning stove inside but I don’t think we were supposed to use that. The place definitely isn’t clean. There were crumbs on the table, spider webs in the corners, etc. Bed linen smelled bad; I’d guess it was stored in damp conditions (hopefully it was washed after the last guests). And – cherry on top – there are cockroaches. Some breakfast items were included but even there we got a surprise because what I initially thought was peanut butter turned out to be peanut satay meant for cooking. I’m amazed this place is rated over 9 on booking because it’s really pretty bad. Edit: Regarding the owners’ answer, that’s exactly the kind of confrontational attitude I don’t need on my vacation and that’s why I didn’t raise any concerns – I knew it wouldn’t do any good. Hopefully the photos I attached speak for themselves about the supposed cleanliness you claim. I’m not one to leave negative reviews over some small shortcomings, but this was just one big sad experience that made us very unhappy.
