“Wouldn't mind coming back - we liked the location, area of town and size of the room.”
I stayed in the guesthouse, which is a separate, large multi‑room building on a quiet side street just around the corner from the main hotel. The main hotel itself has classic architecture, with a reception desk and breakfast service. The guesthouse feels more like an AirBnB but with fewer amenities. To get to the reception you have to walk over to the main hotel, and the reception closes overnight. The room was really big, with high ceilings, a bay window, and plenty of natural light. The decor was functional rather than pretty, a bit dated but well kept. If you’re into a retro 70s/80s vibe, the quirky bathroom window “handle” is a fun touch. The seating and beds were very comfortable, the wardrobe had hangers, the ceiling lights were good, and there were a couple of spare sockets. The TV sat on a table near the window, so you could watch it while lying in bed after long days out. We didn’t try the Wi‑Fi, and we had breakfast in town. The bathroom was okay, not luxurious, but it had a hair dryer and generic soap dispensers. The staff at the reception were unfriendly – we met three people who made us feel unwelcome, spoiling the chic vestibule and making us want to leave quickly each time. Cleaning was only available if requested a day in advance; there was no daily housekeeping. In the room there was no information about the hotel, emergency numbers, or anything like that, which was surprising. There was no kettle, no fridge, and no complimentary bottled water (though there were mini‑packs of Haribo on the bed). Cleaning could be better – there was mould in the shower tiles. The step‑in shower cubicle was quite small for people of regular and large body size, and it had a textile shower curtain, which is a bit unexpected these days but fine for a short stay. There is no room to leave luggage for a few hours, so we used a facility in town. The main building might be better for accessibility needs, as it has at least a ramp, while the guesthouse entrance has a small flight of stairs. The location is quite central and nice, close enough to the old city and parks, and in a quiet, lovely neighbourhood. It’s a bit too far to walk from the train station, and there are no shops nearby. It’s a 10‑minute walk to the nearest bridge where the old city starts, or you can take one of several bus lines that stop in front of the hotel. A great dinner place next to the hotel is Uptown.
