“Nice hotel, terrible food.”
Our room was lovely and spacious. The hotel grounds were beautiful. Overall, a lovely hotel. The food at the bar/restaurant was disappointing; I wouldn’t recommend eating there. We wanted a quiet first night, so we went to the hotel bar because we couldn’t get a table in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad (chicken £8 more) and my husband had the club sandwich with a side of fries. The chicken in both dishes was dry and flavourless, and the lettuce was brown and soggy. I spoke to the manager, who took it to the kitchen. The outcome was a dessert or free drink. They also removed the only good part from the bill, which was the fries. It was £55 for an old Caesar salad, an unflavoured club sandwich, a spirit and mixer, and cider (small bottle £7!). I was told they batch‑cook and precook the chicken. I don’t know why, as the restaurant looked empty and the bar wasn’t busy. It’s the same kitchen as the restaurant. So we cancelled the table for the next evening and ate out. The hotel messaged me the next day to ask how our stay was and to let them know any issues. I did, and they still haven’t replied… So eat out. I recommend the Flintgate Pub on the main road. Oh, and the windows need cleaning and dusting; there were some lovely big cobwebs on them in the room!
