Hotel Ristorante Casa Volpi, a 18th-century Tuscan villa, sits atop a hill just outside Arezzo, a 5-minute drive from the train station and city centre. Antique wooden furniture, wrought-iron beds, and unique details create a historic ambiance in each room, which also features LCD TVs and wood-beamed ceilings. Free wired internet is available in all rooms, while Wi-Fi is available in public areas and some rooms.

I liked the hotel, an interesting former villa that’s well run, quiet, and worth recommending.

I found the place pretty, and I’d been there a few years ago. The bathroom needed fixing – no hot water, little cold water, the shower was clogged and the other taps barely worked. I’m sorry, we must have booked the wrong room; despite the friendly staff, they didn’t help. After a day of riding, a shower was essential but we couldn’t wash up.

Despite—or perhaps because of—the noticeable patina, the villa had great charm. The parking was spacious, the staff very friendly, and the onsite kitchen superb, with meals served on a lovely veranda, so the distance to the centre wasn’t an issue. The bathroom fixtures, however, were a bit outdated.
