“Disappointing for a 4-Star Hotel”
The hotel was attractive with many quirky features, and the staff were friendly and helpful, providing good service except for breakfast on our second day (see below). Our room was large and comfortable, and breakfast was excellent, offering plenty of choices and all hot dishes freshly cooked to order. Unfortunately, the hotel didn’t live up to its 4‑star rating. Upon arrival, an unpleasant chemical smell filled the entire hotel, including public spaces and our room, and we had to keep the windows open all evening until it faded. The hotel’s fabric was somewhat worn, and the stair carpet was threadbare in places, nearly causing tripping hazards. On the second morning, the breakfast waitress brought us our tea and then vanished, leaving us waiting to place our orders. After a long wait, my wife found her chatting with a friend around the corner. The restaurant’s dinner menu was extremely ordinary and unimaginative, so we ate elsewhere. Fortunately, there are several dining options in and around Malmesbury.
