“A éviter.... a fuir ...”
Honestly… nothing. We never leave bad reviews, but this time we had no choice. After seeing negative comments for years with no change, it’s a blatant disrespect to guests. We booked for three nights, but after a sleepless first night we had to find another hotel urgently and couldn’t get a refund. The rooms were unhygienic with a mold smell. The bathroom had a questionable plastic shower curtain. The bathroom furniture didn’t stay on the walls. The mattress with springs broke our backs (my wife and I). There’s no smoke detector in the rooms, which is mandatory in Greece for hotels (if it can be called a hotel). The breakfast was as bad as the place (infamous). We booked four hotels in Crete, cheaper than this one but all perfect with respectful Greek staff always ready to help. Here it’s a German couple completely in denial. When we told them we were leaving, their only reply was… it’s your choice. We stay with dignity and respect. People from various businesses in Matala told us it was important to leave a review because this kind of place tarnishes Matala’s image, a truly wonderful place. I hope booking realizes they can’t offer such a place that also tarnishes their image. I’m not even talking about the 5 € extra for air conditioning per day… or eggs and bacon extra for breakfast. I probably forget many things… but it’s already a lot… the hippie argument doesn’t hold.
