“Extremely average.”
The location is great—just a short walk to the fabric markets, with plenty of stalls nearby. But when I got there, the front desk wouldn’t let me check in because they claimed I hadn’t paid for more than one night, even though I had. That delayed me for 2 hours and I ended up paying a pricey phone bill to call the hotline. It turned out to be a glitch in the hotel’s booking system. I’d paid for breakfast, yet the staff said I hadn’t, but eventually handed it over after I mentioned I’d paid “too much” for the room. The breakfast itself was mediocre; the cooked dishes were left in open bowls and went cold. The room was not the cleanest—an older property, so the bathroom grout had some mold, the towels weren’t very soft or new, and the bedding had marks. There was a massage chair that required payment, which felt pointless. The bed was very hard, and the Wi‑Fi was slow and kept dropping, making it impossible to work. If you just need a convenient walk to the markets, this place works, but I’d rather stay somewhere nicer and take a taxi next time. Guangzhou isn’t huge, so a 15‑20 minute taxi ride is fine compared to a 10‑15 minute walk.
