We stayed at Kuma Safari Lodge and it was perfect. The rooms were spotless and kept cool by excellent air conditioning. The family running the lodge were warm and kind: they prepared breakfast and dinner with genuine, tasty dishes and organised our safari for the next day, making everything easy. An ideal base for visiting the park, with truly sincere hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

The proximity to the park and the ability to book a safari directly with them was great—highly recommended. The driver was attentive, and we were the first guests on the site. The only downside is there’s no restaurant nearby.

It’s a rural family-run place! The mother manages the lodging, her son owns a recommended restaurant and offers safari tours in the morning or at other times; everything revolves around the safari and the elephants (nursery in the evenings). The only drawback is there’s no town or even a village nearby, so don’t expect a bustling atmosphere.

The breakfast was hearty and excellent. Everything is set up for the safari. The mother runs the accommodation, the son owns a recommended restaurant and handles the safari with his jeeps, and there’s a nursery in the evenings. Everything is fine; the value for money is the best I’ve seen in Sri Lanka.

We spent two nights at Kuma Safari Lodge and did their morning safari, which was brilliant! The rooms were spacious, clean, and had air conditioning. The lady running the accommodation was lovely and served us delicious breakfast both mornings after the safari. Overall I’d recommend staying here to experience the Udawalawe Safari, as it’s so close to the park entrance and we were actually the first Jeep into the park! A couple of things to note: the Safari doesn’t come with a guide, only a driver—an extra £20 is required for a guide. We were also unexpectedly charged for water at the end of our stay, even though it was provided at breakfast and we assumed it was included as part of the free breakfast.
