The location is superb, facing Kilimanjaro. The staff are adorable and attentive, and the accommodation is very comfortable with very cozy beds. In the late afternoon, a short walk around the premises lets you see gazelles, giraffes… The meals are hearty and varied. In short, I recommend it 100 %. Caution: the location provided by Booking is incorrect. Using Google Maps, you’ll need to go to the given point and take a barely visible right turn.
The hotel's staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made a big difference to my stay. The food was also really tasty and the rooms were super comfy, which is exactly what I needed after a long day. However, the hotel's location was a bit of a letdown - it was a bit far from the city centre and the surrounding area wasn't particularly interesting. Overall, I'd say it was a decent choice, but not without its flaws.
“Presque parfait”
The staff here is top-notch, especially Rachel who's super professional and efficient, always available and smiling. The other staff members, including the driver Benson, are also great. The lodge itself is really comfortable, with an open view of the bush that's not fenced, which is a big plus for the scenery and for being able to walk around freely - it's a big difference from other lodges where you feel trapped.
we were placed at little Amanya rather than at what we booked. The location of little amanya is good if you want to do a gamedrive at Amboseli. It also has a lovely view of Kilimanjaro. The operation is confusing. We booked at Amboseli Amanya lodge, with the understanding it had a restaurant. Prior to our arrival we ask about dinner and were told to go to little Amanya and have dinner there. It is further suggested that we sleep at little Amanya as well. We agree, provided the facilities are the same. Turns out they were not, there was no A/C and the cabin seemed run down, not the new one we booked. But, we agree to stay at little Amanya as we were tired after a long day of travelling and it seemed we would have to wait an hour for dinner before we could be driven to what we had actually booked. We were further concerned, that we could only get breakfast at little Amanya and needed to leave early the next day. It seems like there i not an operating restaurant at Amboseli Amanya, but we don't know. The cabin was very thoroughly aired before our arrival, so at first we did not notice a strong smell of bats. We noticed bats flying out from under the roof, but hoped it would not prove to be a problem. We did not realise at first, that there were cracks in the ceiling and bat droppings in the bathroom. After closing the windows and getting ready for bed, the smell in the bedroom became stronger and we could hear bats squeeking all night and in the morning. We do not think this cabin (named Buffalo) is in a state where it should be rented out. When we checked out, we argued we should not have to pay for meals and drinks, as we had had a terrible nights sleep due to the foul smell and bat-squeeking. The manager was very unhelpful and stated we should have raised the issue sooner so they could have done something about it. The manager did not get back to me, when I argued that would have meant waking her in the middle of the night. Neither did she answer the phone at an earlier point in the morning, when both the receptionist and I tried to call her
“Nice staff and great food but some disappointments”
The staff here were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was top-notch, and the views of Kilimanjaro were breathtaking - especially during sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, our room was a bit of a letdown, with no hot water after a 5-minute wait, and the pool was empty, which was a shame. To top it off, dinner was a bit of a warm affair, and the lunchbox prices were steep at 20 bucks a pop.
